Dubai:The Zayed International Foundation for the Environment has initiated the third phase of its 'One Million Trees' campaign, themed "Planting for Sustainability." This phase is undertaken in collaboration with Hemaya Schools, with strategic partnership from Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) and main sponsorship from DAMAC Properties and CMC Markets.
According to Wam, the campaign builds on the Foundation's decade-long efforts in tree-planting to promote environmental sustainability, expand green spaces, and foster a culture of environmental volunteering and community participation in the UAE.
The third phase was launched at Hemaya Girls School in Al Karama, Dubai, featuring participation from students, volunteers, and representatives of the organizing partners. The event underscored the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and the public and private sectors in supporting national environmental initiatives, while also raising awareness about tree planting and natural resource conservation.
The campaign aims to plant over one million trees in successive phases, contributing to green space expansion, improved environmental quality, biodiversity conservation, and climate change impact mitigation, aligning with the UAE's national sustainability and climate action goals.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad bin Fahad, Chairman of the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment, stated that the campaign reflects the Foundation's commitment to perpetuating the environmental legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who prioritized environmental protection and natural resource development in the UAE's growth strategy.
He highlighted that involving school students is a key campaign objective, aiming to cultivate a generation that is environmentally conscious and values trees and green spaces. He emphasized that planting a tree today helps instill the principle of sustainability in society for the future.
The campaign will proceed in the final quarter of 2026, with the fourth phase set for November 19 in Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Municipality, as part of efforts to enhance tree planting and vegetation cover in the emirate. Additional tree-planting activities are planned for December, concluding the campaign's 2026 activities, aimed at achieving the goal of planting one million trees.
The initiative will focus on planting tree species suited to the UAE's environment, particularly the Ghaf tree, a national emblem of resilience and climate adaptation, known for its drought resistance and contribution to the local ecosystem.
