ADDED, GWU Join Forces to Empower Women in Economic Sector


Abu Dhabi: The General Women’s Union (GWU) and the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) have signed a cooperation agreement to empower and support female talent development while encouraging their participation in the economic sector. This partnership contributes to advancing sustainable development in Abu Dhabi and the UAE.



According to Emirates News Agency, the agreement is part of ongoing efforts to enable Emirati women to directly contribute to strengthening the foundations of the economy and enhancing its competitiveness. This initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s goals for economic growth, diversification, and the establishment of sustainable development.



Ahmed Jassem Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, expressed pride in collaborating with the General Women’s Union to develop the business ecosystem and empower women across economic sectors. He highlighted the significant accomplishments women have achieved in entrepreneurship and leading initiatives, emphasizing that empowering women is crucial for economic growth and diversification. Al Zaabi noted that increasing women’s participation in the economic field contributes to Abu Dhabi’s development efforts and solidifies the emirate’s position as a global hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic growth. He praised the Union’s initiatives to enhance and empower women, increasing their active participation in sustainable development.



Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women’s Union, stressed the importance of strategic partnerships in developing the skills and abilities of female professionals. These efforts align with the leadership’s vision to qualify and empower women across key sectors through advanced training programs. She acknowledged the significant role the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development plays in preparing and training female talent, highlighting the crucial role Emirati women have in driving sustainable economic development.



The agreement includes the formation of a committee to identify areas for improvement and develop plans to enhance female entrepreneurs’ presence in business activities. It establishes the policies and strategic objectives of the General Women’s Union as a fundamental reference to unify efforts in highlighting the UAE’s role in empowering women. The agreement also emphasizes transparency in assessing progress made in supporting women economically, enabling informed decision-making to strengthen women’s status and expand their opportunities.



The agreement focuses on cooperation in strategic initiatives of shared interest, aiming to unify efforts in economically supporting women at local and regional levels. It seeks to strengthen collaboration in exchanging knowledge, training, administrative expertise, and institutional experiences, all contributing to enhancing human, procedural, and institutional capacities.



Areas of cooperation include a progress tracking system for women, establishing a direct electronic link between economic license databases and the women’s progress tracking system. This will be achieved through specific rules and mechanisms agreed upon during implementation.



Both parties will collaborate to build women’s capacities, encouraging them to engage in non-traditional business activities through training and mentorship programs. These programs are part of ADDED’s annual plan, in collaboration with relevant sectors and partners, supporting research and development. The two parties will also cooperate in training and developing skills in specific areas to enhance competitiveness and productivity.



The General Women’s Union will support ADDED in coordinating with regional and international organizations focused on women to implement initiatives. In return, ADDED will share expertise and knowledge, contributing to joint regional and international initiatives by providing consulting services.
