ADRA Enforces Tobacco Sale Regulations Near Schools in Abu Dhabi

Abu dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Registration Authority (ADRA), a division of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED), has taken decisive action by shutting down two businesses and issuing 61 warnings for violations related to tobacco sales near schools. These actions were part of ADRA's broader initiative to enforce compliance with federal laws, executive regulations, Cabinet decisions, and ADDED's rules.

According to Emirates News Agency, ADRA undertook extensive inspection campaigns and field visits across Abu Dhabi in the first ten months of 2025. These efforts were particularly aimed at businesses located near schools to ensure they adhere to relevant regulations. The intensified scrutiny seeks to preserve a safe and equitable business environment.

Since the beginning of 2025, ADRA has conducted 1,661 field visits and organized 21 inspection campaigns focused on the sale of tobacco and electronic cigarettes. The violations identified included displaying tobacco products at checkout counters, offering home delivery services, and selling to minors.

ADRA's initiatives are aligned with its mandate to safeguard consumer and trademark rights by strictly enforcing legislation and regulations. This ensures that establishments comply with the standards set for business operations.

Mohammed Muneef Al Mansoori, Director-General of ADRA, emphasized the authority's dedication to maintaining a safe business climate with robust health and safety standards. He pointed out that the relatively low number of violations signifies widespread compliance and the success of awareness campaigns. Al Mansoori reiterated ADRA's commitment to protecting consumer rights and intellectual property, which bolsters Abu Dhabi's reputation as a global business and investment hub.
