AI Offers Promising Opportunity for Achieving Development, Balanced Growth, UAE Tells 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum

Brasilia: The UAE Parliamentary Division participated in the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum held in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil. Parliamentary delegations gathered to discuss a range of critical issues, including climate change, artificial intelligence, peace and security, and institutional parliamentary cooperation.

According to Emirates News Agency, during the session on 'Parliamentary Cooperation for Responsible and Inclusive Artificial Intelligence', Sara Mohammad Falaknaz, a member of the Federal National Council (FNC), highlighted artificial intelligence as a promising opportunity for achieving development and balanced growth. She underscored that optimal investment in AI requires sound governance, starting with fair and equitable legislation. Falaknaz emphasized that technological advancement must not compromise justice, privacy, and digital sovereignty, while also highlighting the importance of considering ethical and human dimensions in the development of legal and regulatory frameworks.

Falaknaz noted that the United Arab Emirates has been a pioneer in anticipating the technological future through several pioneering initiatives. These include the appointment of the world's first Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, the launch of the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031 aimed at enhancing government performance and economic excellence through AI technologies, and the establishment of the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence.

She concluded her speech by emphasizing the need to enact flexible and ethical legislation to keep pace with rapid developments, support innovation ecosystems, and ensure the protection of individual and societal rights. She also stressed the importance of enhancing international parliamentary cooperation to exchange expertise and develop unified standards that ensure safe and inclusive digital transformation.
