Dubai: The 8th edition of Airport Security Middle East is set to address the current challenges, emerging threat scenarios, and future needs of airport security as a co-located conference during the 24th edition of the Airport Show at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from May 6th to 8th. The event will be held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, an esteemed figure in the aviation sector.
According to Emirates News Agency, the conference aims to connect airport industry leaders and key decision-makers, enabling them to keep their airports ahead of time by deploying futuristic and innovative products. The event promises premium networking and business opportunities for industry players from the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia.
The Airport Show is expected to feature more than 120 exhibitors from over 20 countries, including country pavilions for Germany and Italy, and will host over 150 buyers from more than 30 countries. Airports Council International (ACI) has projected that airport investment worldwide is likely to reach US$2.4 billion by 2040, with the global airport projects pipeline standing at US$589.1 billion by Q3 2024. The Middle East and Africa's pipeline of projects is valued at US$75.5 billion, while South Asia's stands at US$34 billion.
AI technology is paving the way for new proactive and intelligent security solutions as airports increasingly adopt digital and cloud-based access control. AI-driven solutions are transforming the physical security landscape by actively monitoring real-time video feeds, analyzing data, reducing false alarms, and providing rapid responses. Smart security systems equipped with computer vision algorithms detect motion, while behavioral analytics and threat intelligence platforms continuously monitor camera feeds, flagging suspicious activities.
Colonel Engineer Expert Marwan Mohammad Singel, Director of Dubai Civil Aviation Security Center at Dubai Police, emphasized the importance of technology in ensuring the security and safety of airport facilities. He noted that investing in best-in-class security technology, alongside well-trained staff, keeps Dubai's airports ahead by facilitating smooth passenger movements.
Dubai, which is one of the 50 cities with two international airports within its urban area, successfully secured 92.3 million passengers in 2024. For the past decade, DXB has maintained its position as the world's top airport by international passenger numbers.
May Ismail, Event Manager at RX, highlighted that as airport security systems must continuously adapt to meet new challenges, the Airport Show will introduce a range of modern security products, many of which will debut in the Middle East.
Kamil Al Awadi, IATA's Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East, stated that passenger traffic is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 3.9 percent over the next 20 years, concluding in 2043.
