Abu Dhabi: Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Committee on Defence, Interior, and Foreign Affairs in the Federal National Council (FNC), recently met with Pasquale Tridico, Member of the European Parliament and Chair of the Subcommittee on Tax Matters (FISC), accompanied by his delegation. The meeting formed part of an official visit designed to enhance the parliamentary relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the European Union (EU).
According to Emirates News Agency, several FNC members, Mohamed Al Sahlawi, the UAE Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and the EU, as well as various ambassadors of EU countries accredited to the UAE, attended the meeting. Discussions centered on cooperative prospects and expertise exchange in legislative and economic domains, highlighting mutual interests and reinforcing parliamentary partnerships between the UAE and EU.
Dr. Al Nuaimi underscored the significance of parliamentary diplomacy as a means for constructive dialogue and sharing views on regional and global issues of common interest. He acknowledged the ongoing progress in relations between the FNC and the European Parliament, especially in addressing global challenges that require deeper collaboration and integration.
He emphasized the need to further develop institutional parliamentary ties and achieve convergence in international viewpoints to form effective and sustainable partnerships between the UAE and the EU. Additionally, Dr. Al Nuaimi showcased the UAE's strides in sustainable development, citing the country's legislative framework that supports investment and economic growth. He noted the start of negotiations on the comprehensive economic agreement between the UAE and the EU in April as a strategic milestone for expanded cooperation in economic and trade sectors.
Tridico expressed appreciation for the UAE's achievements in economic and legislative areas, praising the nation's business environment and transparency as a regional model. He highlighted the European Parliament's eagerness to strengthen parliamentary cooperation frameworks with the FNC to support political dialogue and economic collaboration between the two entities.
