Arab, Pacific island states talks conclude in Saudi Arabia

Talks bringing together foreign ministers from Arab and Pacific island countries drew to a close in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh on Monday, which aimed to bolster bilateral relations across numerous fields ranging from trade and investment to security and energy. Greater bilateral cooperation would enable countries to address global challenges as a "collective unit," said Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, pinpointing food security and climate change as among those challenges.

On the objective for the talks, the Egypt-based Arab League chief Dr. Ahmed AbulGheit highlighted the common "aspirations and interests" of the two regions despite the lack of geographic proximity, citing efforts to find "common ground" on a vast array of matters.

The talks were presided over by the Saudi foreign minister, where he was joined by his counterparts from the wider Arab region and Pacific Island countries.
