Vienna: The Austrian Parliament has officially adopted the country's first national strategy focused on Africa, marking a pivotal shift in Austria's foreign policy. This strategy aims to align Austria's priorities with African nations on matters of security, development, and economic collaboration, fostering a partnership grounded in mutual interests and reinforced cooperation.
According to Emirates News Agency, Austria's Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, spearheaded the drafting of this significant strategy. She emphasized that the new approach is informed by Africa's remarkable demographic and geopolitical dynamism, with 11 African countries currently among the world's 20 fastest-growing economies.
The Austrian government initiated a comprehensive consultation process last October, engaging with African governments, regional organizations, academic circles, and business stakeholders. This extensive dialogue led to the National Council's recent adoption of the Africa Strategy 2026-2029, marking a milestone in Austria's foreign policy. The strategy represents a departure from the conventional donor-recipient model, consolidating Austria's priorities towards Africa within a cohesive national framework.
