New York: The BRIDGE Alliance has released its first Connecting Conversations report, drawing on findings from a high-level BRIDGE Roadshow roundtable hosted in New York by the UAE's National Media Office (NMO).
According to Emirates News Agency, the report, titled 'Connecting Conversations New York City: Redefining The Future Of Global Media', depicts a media ecosystem in a state of flux. It is caught between innovation and instability, influence and accountability, urgency and uncertainty. The roundtable convened leaders from journalism, tech, academia, entertainment, and public affairs, focusing on six urgent themes that reveal significant disruptions in media production, consumption, and trust.
The report begins with 'Virality Versus Veracity,' highlighting the challenges posed by algorithm-driven virality overshadowing editorial accuracy, with concerns raised about the systemic impact on public trust. Another critical theme, 'Confronting AI's Impact on Journalism,' discusses the increasing use of generative AI tools in newsrooms, emphasizing the necessity for ethical guidelines, transparency, and responsible applications.
Further, the report addresses the decline in public confidence in media institutions. In 'Media, Education and Public Trust in a Post-Truth World,' leaders advocated for substantial reforms in journalism education and public media literacy. The economic and emotional stress on audiences, highlighted in 'Overwhelmed and Losing Faith,' underscores the urgency to restore trust amid information overload.
Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office (NMO) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UAE Media Council, emphasized the importance of unifying efforts, stating, "We must start speaking the same language. To connect on the same path forward. To bridge any gaps in knowledge and understanding. And to come together to implement change."
He further remarked, "Through BRIDGE, we aim to revolutionize global media through pioneering collaboration, cutting-edge innovation, and a steadfast commitment to create a more inclusive global media ecosystem."
One of the most impactful discussions took place under 'Trusting News in an Influencer-Driven World,' where participants explored the merging lines between entertainment and information. The evolving role of social media creators and AI avatars in public information dissemination is reshaping the foundations of journalistic credibility.
The New York roundtable is the inaugural event in the BRIDGE Roadshow series, which will proceed with sessions in London, Shanghai, and Osaka, leading up to the BRIDGE Summit 2025 in Abu Dhabi. Insights from these discussions will guide the summit's program and policy priorities, aiming to craft an ambitious vision for the future of global media. Registrations for the BRIDGE Summit 2025 are now open.
