Canadian Prime Minister Urges Against Alberta Separation in Final Plea

Edmonton:Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a final plea to Alberta voters on Friday, urging them to reject the path toward independence in an upcoming referendum. He cautioned that pursuing separation could pose significant risks to Canada's sovereignty during a period of increasing threats.

According to Emirates News Agency, Carney emphasized that the timing of the referendum is particularly inopportune and stressed the importance of voter turnout in determining the outcome. Speaking at a pro-Canada rally in Edmonton, he warned, "A vote against Canada is a dangerous bluff that will lead to years of deep uncertainty and lost opportunities for Albertans and Canadians."

The vote scheduled for Monday is not a direct referendum on Alberta's independence. Instead, it will decide whether the province should remain part of Canada or instruct the government to initiate legal proceedings toward a future referendum on separation. Alberta holds the majority of Canada's proven oil reserves, making it a significant player on the global energy stage.

Carney's appeal marked the conclusion of a two-day campaign aimed at opposing the separation movement within the province.
