Abu Dhabi: The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has introduced a new AED100 banknote, crafted from polymer and featuring advanced designs and security elements. This launch aligns with the UAE's leadership vision and underscores the country's commitment to sustainability.
According to Emirates News Agency, the new AED100 banknote is part of the CBUAE's Third Issuance of the National Currency Project. Its design is a testament to the UAE's success, showcasing cultural and developmental symbols that narrate the nation's evolution into a global economic and commercial hub.
The banknote's design is marked by a unique aesthetic, using various shades of red while retaining the colour characteristics of the current denomination for public recognition. It incorporates the UAE nation brand through advanced printing techniques. The front of the banknote features the Um Al Quwain National Fort, a historical and cultural landmark, while the reverse side displays the Port of Fujairah and the Etihad Rail network, highlighting the nation's infrastructure and economic prowess.
To combat counterfeiting and boost consumer confidence, the AED100 banknote includes advanced security features such as SPARK Flow DIMENSIONS and KINEGRAM COLORS, making it highly secure. The polymer material ensures durability and sustainability, lasting significantly longer than traditional paper banknotes. Prominent Braille symbols are included to aid blind and visually impaired users in identifying the banknote's value.
The new banknote will circulate alongside the existing AED100 notes starting March 24, 2025. Banks and exchange houses are instructed to prepare their machines to accept this new banknote seamlessly. The CBUAE has previously won awards for its innovative banknote designs and security features, showcasing its commitment to excellence.
Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the CBUAE, expressed that the new banknote reflects the leadership's vision for a sustainable and competitive financial future, honouring the UAE's historical and cultural heritage. The launch coincides with the Eid Al-Fitr celebrations, marking a significant milestone for the nation.
