DFWAC Recognized with ‘Kafa’ Award for Pioneering Initiative Against Violence


Kuwait City: The International Women’s Empowerment and Capacity Building Organisation, Tamkeen, has honored the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) at its 53rd Conference in Kuwait, themed ‘Positivity is the Gateway to Sustainable Recovery from Addiction.’ DFWAC received the Kafa Award for its innovative Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) program, marking it as the leading initiative to combat violence against women in the Arab world.



According to Emirates News Agency, the initiative is one of the first in the region to employ animal-assisted therapy as a means of providing psychological empowerment, emotional support, and integrated treatment for women and children affected by addiction and abuse. Tamkeen praised DFWAC for its significant role in safeguarding women’s rights, dignity, and safety, highlighting the foundation’s innovative approach to addressing the needs of vulnerable groups while promoting community awareness and empowerment.



Shaikha Saeed Al Mansouri, Acting Director-General of DFWAC, emphasized that this recognition serves as motivation to strive for further excellence. She reiterated DFWAC’s commitment to enhancing therapeutic services through modern and effective approaches within a comprehensive care and sustainable support framework. Al Mansouri dedicated the achievement to the UAE and its leadership, which prioritizes women’s empowerment and protection.



Dr. Ghanima Al Bahri, Director of the Care and Rehabilitation Department, accepted the award on behalf of DFWAC. She expressed pride in representing the foundation at such a prestigious event, stating that the award is a testament to the importance of psychological care and integrated treatment as fundamental rights for women and children who have faced adversity. She also noted that innovation in support methods can reignite hope for survivors.



The conference also awarded the “Outstanding Gulf Social Worker Award” to a group of social workers, an initiative by the Regional Network for Social Responsibility, recognizing inspiring role models and pioneering practices in protection and social empowerment fields.
