Dubai: The Dubai Film Development Committee, a newly established body under the Dubai Media Council, convened for its inaugural meeting to explore strategies for fostering the development and sustainability of the film sector in Dubai. The meeting, held at the Council's headquarters, focused on defining the committee's mandate and operational framework while identifying key areas to bolster the film ecosystem in the emirate.
According to Emirates News Agency, the discussions centered on enhancing Dubai's existing strengths in the film industry and addressing practical needs in production, talent development, and collaboration. Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Dubai Media Council, emphasized the committee's critical role in achieving Dubai's creative economy vision. She highlighted the media sector's importance in contributing to the knowledge economy through creativity and innovation.
Badri underscored the film sector as a promising area with limitless growth opportunities, aiming to position Dubai as a global hub for media production and creativity. She stressed the necessity of aligning policy, infrastructure, and industry requirements to foster a cohesive approach to film development. Film now plays a significant role in Dubai's media landscape, contributing to economic diversification, talent development, and international collaboration.
Issam Kazim, Chairman of the Dubai Film Development Committee, reaffirmed the committee's commitment to turning strategy into actionable results. He outlined early focus areas such as specialized training development, streamlining production processes, and strengthening partnerships with local and international stakeholders. These initiatives aim to complement the growth of an economy driven by creativity and technology.
The committee, formed under Dubai Media Council Resolution No. (8) of 2025, issued by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is tasked with providing tailored services and facilities to support the industry. It will collaborate with local and international studios, facilitate training programs, and create opportunities for emerging talent.
Hesham Al Olama, Vice Chairman of the committee, highlighted the importance of the diverse selection of committee members in achieving strategic objectives. The synergy among entities represented on the committee is expected to create a thriving ecosystem, reinforcing Dubai's status as a prime destination for global filmmakers and attracting substantial investment.
The meeting was attended by committee members from various key organizations, including the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Customs, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Police, General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs, and Emirates Airline.
