Dubai:Dubai Police have conducted a training program for 25 officers and personnel, focusing on specialised techniques for interviewing and supporting human trafficking victims, with an emphasis on their psychological wellbeing and individual needs.
According to Emirates News Agency, this training was organised by the General Department of Human Rights in collaboration with the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children. It took place at the Dubai Police Officers Club under the title 'The Art of Interviewing Human Trafficking Victims Professional Applications from a Psychosocial Perspective'.
The initiative included commissioned officers, non-commissioned officers, and other personnel engaged in human trafficking prevention, investigation, and victim protection. Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Humaid Al Bannai, Acting Director of the Human Trafficking Monitoring Centre at Dubai Police, highlighted that the training underscores the force's dedication to enhancing the skills of those handling human trafficking cases.
Dr. Al Bannai emphasized that supporting victims involves more than legal measures; it requires understanding their psychological, social, and humanitarian needs. The training seeks to improve the support provided from the initial interview to ongoing protection, care, and assistance in overcoming exploitation effects.
The sessions were led by Dr. Ghanima Al Bahri, Director of the Care and Rehabilitation Department at the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children. Participants learned professional interviewing techniques to ensure victims feel safe and respected while sharing their experiences. The training underscored effective communication, recognizing psychological and behavioural indicators, and tailoring questions to individual circumstances.
The program also explored how cultural and social differences affect a victim's response and the importance of considering these factors to protect their rights and dignity.
