Emirates SkyCargo and LODD Autonomous Collaborate on Drone-Powered Cargo Solutions

Dubai: Emirates SkyCargo and LODD Autonomous have entered into a strategic partnership to explore drone-powered delivery systems through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the 2025 Dubai Airshow. The agreement aims to develop and deploy next-generation air cargo solutions.

According to Emirates News Agency, the MoU was signed by Badr Abbas, Emirates SkyCargo's Divisional Senior Vice President, and Rashid Al Manai, Chief Executive Officer of LODD Autonomous. The partnership will focus on validating the use of VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) aircraft across Emirates SkyCargo's extensive global network. This will involve conducting feasibility studies, engaging with regulatory bodies, and performing live demonstrations.

With over forty years of expertise in global goods movement, Emirates SkyCargo will contribute to LODD's experimental operations until the end of 2027. The company will provide insights to inform the design and development of these drone solutions, with an eye towards commercial deployment in both regional and global markets.

The agreement comes on the heels of the first successful test flight of LODD's Hili, an unmanned, hybrid heavy-lift cargo aircraft developed in Abu Dhabi. Hili is fully autonomous from take-off to landing, with a payload capacity of up to 250 km and a travel range of up to 700 km.

Abbas stated that the partnership with LODD reflects Emirates SkyCargo's commitment to innovation in transportation solutions. He emphasized that emerging technologies will shape the future of logistics, and the company aims to lead this transformation by investing its experience and expertise.

Al Manai noted that the collaboration will accelerate the adoption of drone-powered solutions, enhancing delivery efficiency and reinforcing the UAE's status as a global logistics hub while maintaining high safety and regulatory standards.
