Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council Unveils Enhanced Nafis Programme Through 2040

Abu dhabi: The Emirates Competitiveness Council (ETCC) has announced significant updates to the Nafis programme, extending its reach and impact through 2040. These enhancements highlight the UAE leadership's dedication to empowering citizens, fortifying Emirati families, and establishing a robust national framework responsive to economic and social changes.

According to Emirates News Agency, the updates involve critical amendments to the Child Allowance Scheme for UAE nationals in the private sector, including lifting the cap on eligible children. The scope of support now also extends to children of female nationals and spouses of nationals employed in the private sector. This move aims to bolster the programme's social and economic impact, enhance quality of life, and support family stability, aligning with the Year of Family 2026 objectives.

Since its inception approximately five years ago, the Nafis programme has recorded notable successes, effectively supporting the stability of nationals in the private sector and enhancing the competitiveness of the national workforce. The programme's progress aligns with the nation's priorities and long-term vision.

Ghannam Al Mazrouei, Secretary-General of the ETCC, confirmed that the extension of the Nafis programme until 2040 and its qualitative updates reflect the forward-looking vision of UAE leadership in investing in people and reinforcing the stability of the Emirati family as key pillars of sustainable development.

During a recent meeting, the ETCC Board of Directors approved amendments to the Child Allowance Scheme, removing the previous cap on eligible children. Additionally, they introduced a Salary Support Scheme for children of Emirati mothers and wives of Emirati nationals working in the private sector. These changes are part of the leadership's commitment to strengthening family stability and enabling all segments of society to participate actively in the labour market.

The updates signify a strategic shift towards a more flexible and inclusive implementation framework. The programme now offers integrated financial support mechanisms considering academic qualifications, social circumstances, and family factors, reinforcing its role in supporting employed Emiratis and enhancing the presence of national talent in the labour market.

The updated Child Allowance Scheme reflects a comprehensive approach to addressing Emirati families' needs, strengthening financial support's direct impact on families as society's fundamental unit. The programme sets specific eligibility criteria for salary support for children of Emirati mothers and wives of Emirati nationals, with conditions based on education, salary range, and family circumstances.

To boost career and financial stability for Emirati nationals in the private sector, the minimum salary for Nafis programme support eligibility has been standardised at AED6,000 per month. The revised benefits framework will gradually take effect from September 2026, ensuring a smooth transition process for existing beneficiaries.

The Nafis Programme will continue to cover pension fund contributions for Emiratis in the private sector, with private sector employers assuming responsibility for their share of pension contributions from September 2026 onwards.

Since its launch, the Nafis programme has significantly impacted, employing over 176,000 Emiratis, with women accounting for 74% of beneficiaries in the private sector. The programme has also expanded its reach across the country, supporting child allowances and professional development for thousands of Emirati nationals.

Launched in September 2021 with a budget of AED24 billion over five years, the Nafis programme aims to employ 170,000 Emiratis in the private sector, forming part of the UAE's broader 'Projects of the 50' initiative to strengthen the national economy and drive qualitative development.
