MENAFATF Joins World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings for the First Time

Washington: The Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF), under the leadership of Hamid Saif Al Zaabi, is making its inaugural appearance at the Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). These meetings commenced on Monday in Washington and are scheduled to continue until April 18th.

According to Emirates News Agency, Al Zaabi emphasized that MENAFATF's participation marks a significant step towards enhancing regional and international cooperation. He highlighted the UAE's presidency of the Task Force, which aims to support member states' preparedness for upcoming mutual evaluations. This aligns with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) methodology, focusing on measuring effectiveness and achieving tangible results.

Al Zaabi further explained that MENAFATF is dedicated to fostering the exchange of expertise and best practices among member states. The organization is focused on developing institutional capacities to enhance anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing, and counter-proliferation financing systems. This effort translates international standards into practical and sustainable outcomes.

He also noted that the meetings offer a platform to deepen international partnerships with financial institutions. They provide an opportunity to exchange views on key global economic challenges, including financial stability and sustainability. MENAFATF reaffirms its commitment to supporting regional coordination and strengthening integration with international efforts.
