FNC and Azerbaijan’s National Assembly Sign MoU to Bolster Parliamentary Relations

Abu Dhabi: Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), and Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, held official talks during her visit to the UAE, highlighting the need to enhance parliamentary ties between the two nations.

According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting emphasized the importance of strengthening parliamentary relations alongside the growing bilateral ties between the UAE and Azerbaijan. This development is supported by the commitment from both nations' leaderships to increase cooperation across various sectors.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the FNC and the National Assembly of Azerbaijan to foster cooperation, coordination, and dialogue on issues of common interest. The agreement aims to boost communication between the legislative bodies through exchanges of visits, joint parliamentary events, and coordinated efforts in regional and international forums.

The MoU reflects a shared focus on promoting security, peace, sustainable development, future foresight, innovation, and diplomatic knowledge exchange, reinforcing collaboration on global issues.

During the meeting, Saqr Ghobash welcomed Dr. Gafarova and her delegation, stating that this visit by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan marks a significant step in the evolution of parliamentary relations between the UAE and Azerbaijan.

Ghobash highlighted the UAE's progress in women's empowerment, particularly in parliamentary representation, noting that women now make up 50 percent of the FNC's membership, thanks to the UAE's leadership.

Dr. Gafarova expressed her appreciation for visiting the UAE and the FNC and praised the UAE's achievements, especially in advancing women's participation in parliamentary and public life.

Several FNC members were present at the meeting.
