GCC chief: Necessity to cement strategic partnership with Jordan

GCC Secretary General Jassem Al-Bedaiwi on Thursday affirmed necessity of bolstering the strategic partnership between the council and Jordan for serving joint interests.

The GCC Secretariat General, in a statement received by KUNA in Amman, said that he made the affirmation during a meeting with the Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi in the Jordanian capital.

This meeting came within framework of the distinctive and strategic relationship and partnership between the GCC and the kingdom, Al-Bedaiwi was quoted as saying, alluding in this respect to a decision by the supreme GCC leaders during their 32nd summit to establish a strategic partnership with Amman.

He affirmed that the discussions with the foreign minister touched on positive results of the strategic partnership in various sectors and followed up on tasks of the joint technical committees.

Al-Bedaiwi expressed aspiration to see broader cooperation and partnership between the two sides.

The GCC, comprising Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain, was established in the early 80s of the past century in the shadow of a wide-scale war between the neighboring giants, Iran and Iraq.

The bloc, founded to broaden cooperation among the regional countries and lift inter-trade barriers, has recently sought to boost relations with Amman that has maintained good relations with the Gulf countries.
