GCC, Middle East Region Poised for Next Wave of Global Investments, Business Leaders Tell SEF 2026

Sharjah: The GCC and wider Middle East region is poised for the next wave of investments in AI and tech-led sectors, with business-friendly and innovation-focused government policies attracting funds and talent, said business leaders at the 9th edition of Sharjah Entrepreneurial Festival (SEF 2026).

According to Emirates News Agency, during a panel discussion on the first day of SEF 2026 examining 'What Does the Next Year of Venture Capital Look Like', speakers agreed that the emerging regional investment landscape appears promising. The session was moderated by Jamie Lane, Co-Founder of FWDstart, at Founders Stage within Startup Town zone, powered by Du Business.

Responding to a question on regional startups' prospects of benefiting from recent investments in digital infrastructure, Tala Al Jabri, Founder and Managing Partner of Wyld VC, highlighted the region's advantages, including low energy costs, progressive government policies, and strong educational institutions focusing on AI. She emphasized the importance of investing in technical talent to achieve the goal of becoming an AI superpower.

Christos Mastoras, Founder and Managing Partner of Iliad Partners, pointed out the influx of global and European investments into the region. Tushar Singhvi, Deputy CEO and Head of Investments at Crescent Enterprises, noted the Middle East's increasing share in venture investments, attributing this to the UAE and regional governments' efforts to attract talent and foster innovation.

Paula Tavangar, Chief Investment Officer at Injaz Capital, observed that Saudi Arabia is leading in deal-making with significant ticket sizes, and mentioned opportunities arising from technology transfer and startup accelerators. She also highlighted the launch of specific VCs for biotech early-stage investments.

In another panel titled 'Inside the CEO Role: What it Takes to Grow', insights were shared on sustainable growth practices. Moderated by Reim El Houni, CEO of Ti22 Films, speakers like Hamad Al Hajri emphasized the importance of work-life balance, while Dr. Tariq Bin Hendi advised challenging oneself and maintaining healthy routines. Mohamed Khadiri stressed customer passion, Karim Benkirane focused on employee satisfaction, and Ambareen Musa advised focusing on controllable factors to solve problems.
