ICJ Starts Public Hearings into Sudan’s Case Against UAE

The Hague: The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague this morning commenced public hearings in the case filed by the Sudanese Armed Forces against the United Arab Emirates.

According to Emirates News Agency, the Sudanese Armed Forces have accused the UAE of violating its obligations under the Genocide Convention. The allegations pertain to the attacks launched by the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces and allied factions against the Masalit ethnic group in West Darfur. However, the Sudanese Armed Forces have been criticized for presenting the case without any legal basis or factual evidence.

Analysts suggest that the case is a weak attempt by the Sudanese Armed Forces to divert attention from their own responsibilities in the ongoing Sudanese conflict. This conflict has resulted in the loss of tens of thousands of lives, displaced millions, and caused widespread famine across large regions of Sudan.
