Industry Leaders in Adventure Tourism Gather in Fujairah to Chart Sector’s Future

Fujairah: Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, the Emirate hosted a pioneering conference on adventure tourism. The Fujairah International Conference of Adventure Tourism, organised by the Fujairah Adventures Centre in partnership with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UN Tourism), marked a significant step for the industry in the region.

According to Emirates News Agency, the event drew participation from key figures in tourism, with a concentrated focus on adventure tourism. The conference featured five sessions that delved into pivotal topics within the sector, collectively contributing to a strategic roadmap aimed at bolstering Fujairah's status as a sustainable adventure tourism hub.

The opening panel, titled "Investment in Adventure Tourism: Opportunities and Challenges," addressed critical themes such as governmental roles in investment facilitation, public-private sector collaboration, promising investment models, and the integration of modern technology in adventure tourism.

During the session on "Safety and Standards: Pioneering Global Best Practices," expert panellists highlighted safety as a core component of adventure tourism. They advocated for the development of robust regulatory frameworks and stressed the necessity of staff training and certification to ensure participant safety and uphold the destinations' reputation, particularly in emergencies.

Industry leaders convened for the third panel to discuss "Sustainability and Community: Preserving Nature and Empowering Local Economies." The session emphasized safeguarding natural resources as essential to the growth of the adventure tourism sector. It showcased successful international models for biodiversity and cultural preservation, illustrating how adventure tourism can enable communities to embrace and benefit from their heritage.

The "Innovation and Youth: Shaping the Future of Outdoor Activities" panel concentrated on empowering youth to redefine adventure tourism. Discussions addressed the obstacles young entrepreneurs face in the sector and explored how social media and modern technology can aid adventure tourism enterprises.

The conference concluded with a panel featuring UN Tourism representatives and global tourism leaders, who shared strategic insights for the sustainable advancement of adventure tourism. They discussed aligning destinations with global environmental standards and integrating local communities into tourism development processes.
