Sakhir: His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has underscored the necessity of advancing the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) through enhanced partnerships in critical areas such as food and water security, the digital economy, and renewable energy.
According to Emirates News Agency, King Hamad emphasized the completion of the GCC customs union and the GCC common market during the opening session of the 46th GCC Supreme Council held at Sakhir Palace. He highlighted the strategic importance of safeguarding maritime navigation and international trade in the Arabian Gulf, advocating for a region free from weapons of mass destruction. This vision aligns with the GCC's collective security and defense strategy, supported by alliances intended to foster human fraternity and peaceful coexistence.
King Hamad further stressed the importance of the Gaza Peace Plan's implementation, which he described as a crucial step towards de-escalation in the region. He called for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The session witnessed the participation of leaders and representatives from GCC states, alongside Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the GCC.
