Kuwait's ambassador to Japan Sami Al-Zamannan paid his respects on Tuesday at a ceremony to commemorate the victims of an earthquake-triggered tsunami in Japan back in 2011, which killed thousands of people and caused a humanitarian catastrophe.
"Kuwait and Japan have been allies for more than 62 years and have always stood alongside each other," the Kuwaiti diplomat said as he met with senior Japanese officials on the sidelines of the remembrance ceremony, praising the "depth" of bilateral relations.
Observing a minute of silence to honor those who lost their lives in the natural disaster, Japan's emperor Naruhito thanked all countries who stood by Tokyo and assisted with reconstruction efforts in the aftermath of the calamity.
