The patent revealed by Microsoft indicates their intention to develop a smart backpack equipped with sensors and utilizing artificial intelligence technology to provide unique features.
The American tech giant recently obtained the patent for the backpack from the US Patent and Trademark Office.
The backpack boasts some very unusual specifications, including the wearable device's ability to detect user speech and provide suggestions similar to digital assistant services such as Amazon's Alexa and Apple's Siri. However, it will also be capable of recording and storing audio.
It is also likely that the unnamed backpack will have the ability to identify objects in its surroundings, offer directions, access the cloud, and communicate with other smart devices.
The recently approved patent is accompanied by several helpful illustrations demonstrating some ways in which the backpack can be used.
"Digital assistants are becoming more versatile due to advancements in computing. The present concepts relate to improvements in wearable digital assistants that can perform various tasks for the benefit of users," says Microsoft.
Microsoft added in the patent application that wearable digital assistants supported by artificial intelligence could represent a growing consumer market and the fact that technology has advanced more rapidly than it was just a few years ago, so it may be an opportune time to launch the smart backpack.
