Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, convened with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), on the opening day of the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2026. The Summit, themed 'Shaping Future Governments', is taking place from February 3 to 5, 2026.
According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting was attended by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, as well as H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai. The discussions focused on global economic developments and the challenges posed by financial and monetary transformations. The conversation also explored avenues for enhancing cooperation between the UAE and the IMF to bolster global economic stability and promote sustainable growth.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid highlighted the importance of international cooperation as a cornerstone for global economic stability amid rapid changes. He noted that the World Governments Summit has become a pivotal global platform for constructive dialogue and the exchange of insights on the future of the global economy.
Georgieva acknowledged the UAE's contributions to global economic stability, stressing the significance of the partnership between the IMF and the UAE in managing economic transitions and bolstering confidence in the international financial system. She also lauded the World Governments Summit as a premier forum for discussions on future economic challenges.

The event is expected to attract over 6,250 participants, including more than 60 heads of state and government, over 500 ministers, and representatives from more than 150 governments, along with global thought leaders, experts, and decision-makers.
