National Rehabilitation Centre Launches Mental Health Awareness Campaign

Accra:The National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) has initiated a campaign to mark World Mental Health Day, which is observed annually on October 10th. The campaign, operating under the slogan 'Mental Health The Foundation for Recovery,' seeks to address misconceptions about mental health, reduce stigma around seeking psychological support, and encourage timely access to necessary help.

According to Emirates News Agency, the campaign underscores the importance of mental well-being in reducing addiction risk factors and supporting both treatment and recovery. It encourages individuals and families to recognize when professional help is needed and to access appropriate services.

The initiative also highlights the crucial role of families, communities, and specialized organizations in creating supportive environments that aid recovery and societal reintegration.

Yousef Altheeb Alketbi, CEO of the NRC, emphasized that addiction treatment at the Center integrates medical and psychological care, starting with an accurate diagnosis while maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy. Alketbi noted that the NRC's commitment extends to early prevention initiatives that incorporate psychological support, viewing mental well-being as vital to building a healthy and sustainable society.

Dr. Mohammed Aljneibi, Head of the Psychiatry Section at the NRC, stated that psychological support is a fundamental component of addiction treatment. It assists individuals in regaining stability and resuming everyday life. He emphasized the importance of understanding each patient's needs and providing comprehensive care that supports mental well-being, long-term recovery, and reintegration into the community, while highlighting the preventive role of mental health.
