Past Champions Clash in Pulsating G3 Ras Al Khor

Meydan: Marbaan and Mysterious Night, who finished first and second twelve months ago, will go head-to-head in the G3 Ras Al Khor (sponsored by Emaar) - the feature race of Friday's Dubai Racing Carnival meeting at Meydan.

According to Emirates News Agency, Marbaan's trainer, Michael Costa, also fields Elnajmm, who recently returned from a layoff with a victory in the G2 Al Fahidi Fort, defeating the re-opposing Chicago Critic. Costa remarked, "Elnajmm looks spot on," though he noted that Marbaan's recent gallop at Meydan was satisfactory but not remarkable.

Chicago Critic's trainer, Johnny Murtagh, is eager to secure his first Meydan victory since his successful riding career. Reflecting on a recent near-miss, Murtagh said, "He was a bit unlucky, he just got touched off on the line." He is optimistic about Chicago Critic's chances, noting the horse's consistent performance and preference for fast ground.

The race also includes Fort Payne, the 2024 winner, representing Nicolas Caullery's in-form team. Marine Henry, Caullery's assistant, discussed the decision to enter Fort Payne, noting the horse's capability on turf and the strategic choice to avoid competing against their other horse, King Gold.

In the G2 Mazrat Al Ruwayah (sponsored by Emaar), the defending champion Djafar has transitioned to Doug Watson's training since last year's victory. Djafar will compete against Claymore, who is trying dirt for the first time under trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam. She explained the decision, citing Claymore's high action and ground-grabbing ability as favorable for the distance and surface.

Trainers Antonio Cintra and Julio Olascoaga have a busy schedule with nine runners, including Go Chrome Go in the 1400-meter Emaar Surge Handicap, who is returning to form after overcoming significant health challenges. Olascoaga expressed pride in the horse's competitive spirit and credited the team, especially farrier Julien Daublain, for the successful recovery.

Donde Firmo, Miss Yechance, and Dream Of Tuscany are also among Olascoaga's entries. Miss Yechance returns to dirt, potentially for her last start this UAE season, while Dream Of Tuscany has shown promise in recent trials.

The racing event begins at 5:30 pm UAE time and can be streamed online via the Dubai Racing Club's YouTube channel.
