Qatar Diabetes Association Organizes Training Workshop for Private School Nurses

Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) organized a training workshop for private school nurses under the name 'Care of students with diabetes, In-depth review and latest technology updates'.

The two-day workshop aimed to teach and train the private schools' nurses on how to manage diabetes in the school and properly deal with serious emergency cases that need immediate response. In addition, the workshop aimed to educate nurses and give them an in-depth understanding of the latest technologies regarding diabetes (insulin pumps and glucose sensors) which most students are now using these devices.

In a press statement, Executive Director of Qatar Diabetes Association Dr. Abdullah Al Hamaq said: "The workshop is particularly important because the number of students with type 1 and type 2 diabetes is increasing across all age groups. Pupils living with the disease can be subject to sharp changes in blood glucose (high and low) affecting their academic performance and their safety. We are working together with the Department of Private Schools Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education towards avoiding the possibility of such emergency and dangerous situations by enhancing the skills of providing care for students living with diabetes to prevent the occurrence of severe diabetes complications and how to prevent them in order to ensure the safety of the students and enable them to participate fully in education and school activities."
