Russian forces have thwarted three attacks by the Ukrainian forces in Zaporizhia, said the Russian Defense Ministry on Sunday.
In a statement, the ministry's spokesman Igor Konashenkov affirmed that the Russian forces used warplanes to fend off three attacks by the Ukrainian forces on several battlefields in Zaporizhia. The Russian forces also stopped the advancement of a Ukrainian armored column in the same region, Konashenkov added, noting that the Russian air defenses shot down a Ukrainian warplane and intercepted 5 missiles.
Konashenkov said that 310 Ukrainian soldiers were killed during combat in Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson, and 11 tanks, including German ones, were destroyed, adding that Russian forces destroyed ammunition depots of the Ukrainian forces in Donetsk, and bombed a location of the Ukrainian military forces leadership in Zaporizhia.
Four Ukrainian regions, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia, stated their accession to Russia last September, after conducting a general referendum where most of the population voted in favor of joining Russia.
