Sharjah Ruler Announces Major Road Projects Connecting Sharjah and Dubai

Sharjah: H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has revealed plans for extensive road development projects aimed at enhancing connectivity between Sharjah and Dubai. The initiative involves constructing and upgrading both internal and main roads, with a significant investment of AED750 million.

According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan highlighted the reinstatement of the Al Taawun Roundabout Monument, which was temporarily removed to make way for a new tunnel. This tunnel is expected to facilitate smoother traffic flow between the two emirates. The monument will be returned to its original location once the project concludes, maintaining its sentimental significance for the residents. Additionally, the Ruler announced the upcoming inauguration of Noor Road, linking Al Orooba Street to Dubai, by the end of this year.

H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan emphasized Sharjah's welcoming nature towards its neighbors and all visitors. During a discussion on the 'Direct Line' programme, he explained that the Al Taawun Roundabout's temporary removal was necessary for the development projects. The new tunnel, designed as a dual carriageway, will extend to Dubai, passing under the Al Nahda Bridge. The complex task of removing and reinstating the monument is being managed with the assistance of specialists and engineers.

The Ruler elaborated on the broader benefits of these projects, particularly their role in alleviating traffic congestion on existing routes. Alongside the tunnel, the development of Al Noor Road is underway, aimed at providing a direct path from Al Orooba Street into Dubai via Al Nahda Bridge. This road is also set for completion by year's end.

The tunnel beneath the Al Taawun Roundabout is expected to reduce traffic pressure and improve connectivity to major roads such as the Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road. Directional signs will guide motorists to Expo Centre Sharjah, offering easy access to its parking facilities.

With a total project cost of AED 750 million, H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan expressed confidence in the positive impact of these investments. He reiterated that Sharjah remains a hospitable emirate, embracing all visitors.

In his concluding remarks, H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan expressed satisfaction with the project's progress and design, which promises to usher in a new era of openness for Sharjah while preserving its cherished heritage.
