Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre Launches Mosque Model and Exhibition in Moscow


Moscow: The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre has unveiled a mosque model, mobile library, and the ‘Spaces of Light’ photography award exhibition at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque.



According to Emirates News Agency, this initiative is part of the Centre’s strategy to emphasize the civilizational role of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque as a unique example among global places of worship. It embodies the UAE’s values of tolerance, coexistence, and cultural exchange, under the ‘Minarets of the Two Capitals’ initiative within the ‘Jusoor’ programme.



The inauguration was spearheaded by a delegation led by Dr. Yousif Al Obaidli, Director-General of the Centre, alongside Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Ambassador to the Russian Federation, and His Eminence Sheikh Rawi Ainuddin, Mufti of the Russian Federation. The mosque model’s unveiling is a part of the Centre’s ‘Jusoor’ programme, aiming to promote the UAE’s cultural image worldwide. Since 2012, over 21 mosque models have been showcased internationally.



Notable displays include those at the UAE Embassy in Moscow, the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Centre for Arabic Language and Islamic Studies in Beijing, and the Museum of Peace and Reconciliation in Kazakhstan. The mobile library featured the Centre’s 27 publications on Arab and Islamic culture, highlighting the UAE’s core principles of tolerance, coexistence, and fraternity.



The photography exhibition showcased winning images from the ‘Spaces of Light’ Photography Award, attracting participation from photographers of various backgrounds and cultures. Additionally, the programme included lectures by Dr. Yousif Al Obaidli on topics related to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and creativity in specialized fields at Moscow State Institute of International Relations and Moscow State University.



Dr. Yousif Al Obaidli emphasized that the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre represents a unique worship place, embodying values of tolerance and peace. The Centre aims to convey its message of coexistence and openness while fostering cooperation with Russia’s cultural and academic institutions. Dr. Al Jaber highlighted the architectural exchange between the mosques as a symbol of hope and dialogue, stressing action and initiative over mere words.



The Centre’s delegation also visited notable cultural institutions in Moscow, including the Kremlin Museums and the Museum of Oriental Art. Meetings with key officials focused on enhancing collaboration and discussing cultural initiatives such as the Light and Peace Museum.



The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque remains a popular destination for Russian visitors in the UAE, having welcomed approximately 2,914,000 Russian visitors, including 293,667 in 2024 alone.
