Sultan Bin Ahmed Explores Huawei R&D Centre and Shanghai Media Group in China

Shanghai: H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, embarked on a visit to the Huawei Research and Development Centre and Shanghai Media Group (SMG) in Shanghai, People's Republic of China. The visit aimed to foster collaboration and explore advancements in technology and media.

According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. toured the expansive Huawei Village, which covers 2.2 million square metres and is home to over 100 buildings and laboratories. The facility employs more than 30,000 staff and serves as a hub for the company's business strategy and product development. During his tour, H.H. observed the high-standard construction of the buildings and the extensive amenities available to employees, which include restaurants, caf©s, recreational areas, and various transport options within the village.

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed also visited the Huawei Research and Development Centre, where he reviewed its strategy and management approach. He familiarised himself with the centre's operations and specialised laboratories, which focus on technological solutions for vital sectors. This centre is one of Huawei's largest R and D hubs globally, combining scientific research with practical application.

The visit provided insights into the latest technologies and digital infrastructure solutions for the media sector, smart city technologies, security systems, data storage, and artificial intelligence. H.H. received briefings on key research projects and Huawei's role in developing modern communication technologies and digital solutions.

During a meeting with Huawei representatives, H.H. emphasized the importance of learning from global experiences in research and development. He discussed Sharjah's commitment to technological advancements in the media sector and explored ways to strengthen collaboration between Sharjah's media sector and Huawei's R and D operations.

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed also visited the Shanghai Media Group, one of China's largest state-owned media organisations. He was briefed on SMG's four main digital platforms and toured its studios to observe the latest technologies used in broadcasting and live transmission.

During a meeting with Song Jiongming, Director-General of SMG, and other officials, H.H. praised the advanced methods in managing media operations and discussed opportunities for joint cooperation. The meeting included a presentation on the Sharjah Media City project, highlighting its facilities for content creators and film producers.

These visits aim to strengthen relations with global technology and media organisations, gain insights into best practices, and facilitate strategic partnerships to support Sharjah's media sector.
