Abu dhabi: In line with the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to position the nation as a global leader in artificial intelligence and advanced technology, the Tahnoon bin Zayed Scholarship in AI Excellence has been established to support outstanding undergraduate students at the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI). Under the guidance of H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC), this initiative will commence in the 2025-2026 academic year, empowering the next generation of leaders in the field of AI.
According to Emirates News Agency, the merit-based Scholarship aims to support approximately 350 undergraduate students over six years. Candidates will undergo a rigorous selection process with criteria focusing on mathematical fluency, leadership, and an entrepreneurial attitude. In addition to financial support, recipients will be provided with opportunities to represent the UAE at high-profile youth events and resources to pursue entrepreneurship ventures and technology innovations.
His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized the transformative impact of artificial intelligence, stating that the future will belong to those who learn, adapt, and harness these technologies responsibly. He highlighted the Scholarship's role in empowering young minds to contribute as innovators in shaping the future and enhancing the UAE's position as a leader in global innovation.
Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of MBZUAI's Board of Trustees and Secretary General of AIATC, expressed gratitude for the initiative, highlighting it as an investment in human potential, the driver of national progress. The Scholarship aims to support exceptional students and build the next generation of global AI leaders.
Professor Eric Xing, MBZUAI President, affirmed the university's commitment to fostering an environment for advanced learning and impactful research. He expressed pride and gratitude for the country's leadership in providing the Scholarship, which will inspire a new generation of scholars to grow with knowledge and purpose.
Unlike traditional AI programmes, MBZUAI's Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence integrates technical expertise with leadership, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary study. Students will engage with the humanities, business, and liberal arts to develop critical perspectives essential for advancing AI responsibly.
The programme is open to national and international students and aims to attract ambitious minds, positioning MBZUAI at the forefront of undergraduate AI education. Students will gain hands-on experience through industry placements and benefit from MBZUAI's advanced learning environment and experienced faculty.
