Trump Suggests Possible US Involvement in Iran-Israel Conflict as Air Strikes Intensify

Tel Aviv: President Donald Trump stated that while the United States is not currently involved in the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, it is "possible" that this stance could change. This development comes as the two nations continue to exchange air strikes for the third consecutive day.

According to Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty, Trump made these remarks during an interview with ABC News on June 15. The renewed hostilities between Iran and Israel have escalated rapidly, with Iranian news agencies reporting multiple strikes in central Tehran, including one near Vali-e Asr Square. Israel's targets reportedly included Iran’s Defense Ministry, a gas processing plant, and oil refineries.

The conflict's escalation has also led to repercussions beyond the immediate military exchanges. The planned nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran, set for June 15 in Oman, were canceled due to the outbreak of violence. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi criticized the Israeli strikes, claiming they were supported by the United States and accusing Israel of attempting to derail the talks.

The situation has further deteriorated with reports of casualties and damage on both sides. Iranian state television reported that public shelters, including subway stations and mosques, have been made available. Meanwhile, in Israel, air raid sirens have sounded as Iran launched its first daytime aerial assault since Israel's initial strikes on June 13. The conflict has even drawn in other regional players, with Yemen’s Houthis claiming to have fired missiles at Israel in coordination with Iran.

The violence has resulted in significant civilian casualties. Iranian Health Ministry reports indicate that 224 people have died and over 1,277 have been hospitalized since the conflict began. In Israel, Iranian missile strikes have caused fatalities and injuries, with emergency services responding to multiple incidents.

Amid this turmoil, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz have issued stern warnings, signaling more military actions. Netanyahu emphasized Israel's intent to continue targeting Iranian positions, urging Iranian civilians near military sites to evacuate.

This escalating conflict has drawn international attention and calls for de-escalation, including from British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. As tensions rise, the potential for broader regional involvement looms, with military and diplomatic efforts being closely monitored by global powers.
