Washington: US President Donald Trump stated in an interview with ABC News that the United States might become involved in the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict and indicated a willingness for Russian President Vladimir Putin to act as a mediator.
According to France24.com, President Trump also mentioned that discussions regarding Iran's nuclear program are still underway and suggested that Tehran might be more inclined to reach an agreement, given the current exchange of significant military strikes with Israel. The conflict has seen Israel and Iran engage in heavy aerial assaults for the third consecutive day, with increasing casualties as Israel targets Iran's nuclear and military capabilities, prompting retaliatory attacks.
Oman, previously a mediator in nuclear discussions, announced the cancellation of a planned sixth round of talks between Iran and the United States for the upcoming weekend. Despite this, President Trump confirmed that discussions are still ongoing and emphasized that there is no set deadline for Tehran to engage in negotiations.
President Trump suggested that the current tensions between Israel and Iran could expedite the nuclear agreement talks, stating that the conflict "may have forced a deal to go quicker, actually."
