TV BRICS Launches Russian Language Project in BRICS+ Countries

Moscow: TV BRICS has announced the launch of a new educational television project designed to teach Russian as a foreign language and to promote Russian culture across BRICS+ countries. The programme, titled 'Russian Lessons with Tanya Semke', aims to make Russian language learning accessible and enjoyable for international audiences.

According to Emirates News Agency, the initial video course will comprise 99 episodes, each lasting four minutes. These episodes are crafted in an engaging format to help foreigners grasp and master the Russian language more effectively. Tanya Semke, a recognized teacher and author in the field of Russian as a Foreign Language, leads the project under the slogan 'Russian language brings cultures closer together'.

The 'Russian Lessons' will be broadcast twice weekly starting on 25th March 2025, available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The programme will be aired in English on the TV BRICS channel and the network's English information portal. Following its premiere on TV BRICS platforms, the lessons will reach a wider audience through the media in BRICS+ and Global South countries, with over 80 major media outlets from 26 countries collaborating as partners.

Tamara Skok, Director of the Department of Innovative Linguistic Projects at TV BRICS and Head of the "Modern Russian" project, emphasized that 'Russian Lessons' continues TV BRICS' strategic efforts to popularize the Russian language and culture internationally. She highlighted the use of convenient and effective educational content and acknowledged the success of international teleconferences with leading BRICS universities. These efforts have resulted in Russian programmes with subtitles in national languages being shown abroad. The 'Modern Russian' project portal offers extensive resources for students and teachers, including multimedia educational materials and Russian proverbs about language and speech.

The "Modern Russian" project began in 2007 with the goal of promoting the Russian language, enhancing literacy, and providing linguistic support. Implemented by TV BRICS, the project is unique in its comprehensive approach to practical philological activities, with resources and services used in over 150 countries. It partners with institutions such as the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute and the Russkiy Mir Foundation.
