Abu dhabi: The Ministers of Foreign Affairs from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Trkiye, and Saudi Arabia have collectively expressed their support for the United Kingdom's recent decision to prohibit the import of goods from illegal Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. They also commend the UK for introducing restrictions on services associated with these settlements, hoping this move will encourage other international actors to adopt similar measures in compliance with international law.
According to Emirates News Agency, the ministers also welcomed a Joint Statement on the Two-State Solution by the foreign ministers of Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. This statement underscores the intention of these countries to implement national or support European restrictions on trade with settlements deemed illegal under international law.
The ministers urge the global community to expand upon these initiatives and take concrete actions to end activities that support illegal Israeli settlements. They believe the announced plans align with international law and United Nations resolutions, including the UN Security Council resolution 2334 (2016) and the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice from 19 July 2024.
The ministers emphasize the importance of Gaza as part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and advocate for the full implementation of President Trump's Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict. This plan aims to ensure security, address humanitarian needs, facilitate reconstruction, and establish lasting peace.
They reaffirm their commitment to the two-State solution as the only viable path to achieving a just and lasting peace, envisioning an independent Palestinian State based on the 4 June 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
