UAE and Trkiye Strengthen Economic Ties at Joint Economic and Trade Commission in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Trkiye have convened the second session of the Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETCO) in Abu Dhabi.

According to Emirates News Agency, the event aimed to expand the two nations' trade and commercial relations, supporting the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) which came into force on September 1, 2023. The meeting was co-chaired by Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and ‚¬Å¡¬€š¬…€œmer Bolat, Trkiye's Minister of Trade.

The session was attended by Saeed Thani Hareb Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Trkiye, and Juma Mohamed Al Kait, Assistant Undersecretary for International Trade Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Economy. Discussions included sectors such as trade, investment, green economy, advanced technology, and industry, along with customs and Halal accreditation.

Dr. Al Zeyoudi emphasized the importance of JETCO in enhancing UAE-Trkiye economic relations, highlighting a threefold increase in bilateral non-oil trade since 2021 under the CEPA framework. Bolat remarked on the significance of the UAE as a key partner for Turkish companies, citing 149 projects valued at $17.7 billion undertaken in the UAE.

The session also hosted the first UAE-Trkiye CEPA Joint Committee meeting, assessing the CEPA's impact and refining trade protocols. Ministerial minutes were signed by Al Zeyoudi and Bolat. A high-level roundtable followed, focusing on investment opportunities and private sector collaboration.

Al Zeyoudi noted the potential to increase trade and investment activities, emphasizing the role of the private sector in capitalizing on CEPA opportunities. The sessions underscored the robust UAE-Trkiye ties, marked by collaboration in sectors like financial services, agriculture, and tourism.
