UAE Engages in Cultural Partnership at 2025 Beijing International Book Fair

Beijing: The Ministry of Culture (MoC) of the United Arab Emirates is actively participating in the 31st edition of the Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF), which is being held in the Chinese capital from June 18 to 22, 2025. This initiative underscores the UAE's dedication to enhancing global cultural dialogue and deepening its strategic relationship with China.

According to Emirates News Agency, the UAE's involvement is part of the 'UAE Pavilion,' inaugurated with key figures such as Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, UAE Ambassador to China; Mubarak Al Nakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture; Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre; and Rashid Al Kous, Executive Director of the Emirates Publishers Association. The event attracts participation from federal and local government entities, academic institutions, and Emirati publishing houses, aiming to showcase the UAE's creative landscape and foster cultural and intellectual exchange with China.

The UAE's program at the fair includes literary panels, traditional performances, children's workshops, and displays of Emirati publications. Visitors are introduced to national initiatives like the Golden Visa recommendation service for creatives, Sheikh Zayed Book Award, 'Kalimah' translation project, and grant programs supporting publishing and translation. These initiatives highlight the Ministry's focus on intellectual and cultural development.

An Emirati Chinese Archive within the pavilion serves to celebrate the historical and cultural ties between the UAE and China, showcasing key moments of cooperation in publishing, translation, and creative industries.

Mubarak Al Nakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, commented on the UAE's participation, stating that their presence at the book fair reaffirms the UAE's commitment to fostering cultural connectivity and building meaningful international partnerships, particularly in Asia. He emphasized that culture is a strategic bridge promoting understanding, respect, and collaboration between peoples.

Al Nakhi further noted the Ministry's investment in supporting publishers and creatives as a step towards building a well-read and culturally aware society. The National Grant Program for Culture and Creativity has supported over 30 Emirati creatives in the fields of authorship and publishing, reflecting the Ministry's commitment to sustaining and advancing local cultural production.

The Beijing International Book Fair is recognized as a premier literary event, drawing thousands of publishers, authors, and cultural professionals globally. Its program includes professional and public events like the Chinese Book Award Ceremony, PubTech Conference, Artistic Publishing Forum, and specialized exhibitions such as the Beijing Picture Book Fair, International Art Book Fair, and Cookbook Fair.
