UAE Food Bank and Community Development Authority Collaborate to Reduce Food Wastage Through ‘Dubai Weddings’ Initiative

Dubai:The UAE Food Bank and the Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai have formalized a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at reducing food wastage and maximizing the use of surplus food via the 'Dubai Weddings' initiative.

According to Wam, the agreement creates a framework for the collection and redistribution of surplus food safe for consumption, targeting eligible beneficiaries. This initiative is set to enhance community impact while promoting food sustainability and social responsibility.

The collaboration aligns with the objectives of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, focusing on strengthening community participation, encouraging responsible consumption, and advancing initiatives that contribute to food security and social solidarity. The MoU outlines coordination efforts between the two entities for collecting, receiving, transporting, and redistributing surplus food from weddings and events identified by the CDA.

The agreement also includes provisions for joint awareness campaigns and community programs that advocate for food preservation and sustainable consumption. This cooperation is expected to foster volunteer participation, thereby strengthening community engagement and encouraging contributions to humanitarian and charitable activities.

Dr. Ahmed Al Hashemi of the CDA highlighted the initiative's role in supporting family formation and community stability, emphasizing its positive impact by ensuring surplus food is safely recovered and redistributed. Manal Obaid bin Yaroof of the UAE Food Bank noted that the cooperation enhances efforts to preserve valuable food resources and promote sustainable practices.

The MoU is part of ongoing efforts by the CDA to enhance the 'Dubai Weddings' initiative and expand its community impact, as well as the UAE Food Bank’s commitment to sustainable food management practices.
