Abu dhabi: Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to His Highness the President of the UAE and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), has officially inaugurated the UAEU Medical Simulation Centre. The event was attended by Prof. Ahmed Ali Alraeesi, Vice Chancellor of UAEU, alongside members of the University's senior leadership.
According to Emirates News Agency, the opening of the UAEU Medical Simulation Centre represents a significant advancement in medical education and clinical training at the university. The facility aims to integrate advanced technologies into the education of future healthcare professionals, offering a safe and immersive environment for clinical practice.
Spanning approximately 4,000 square meters over two floors, the centre houses five simulation suites for major clinical specialties, including Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Emergency Department (ED), Obstetrics and Gynecology, Operating Room (OR), and Pediatrics. Additional features include an immersive simulation room, Virtual Reality (VR) room, OSCE examination rooms, debriefing rooms, lecture rooms, multipurpose rooms, and Standardized Patient (SP) facilities.
The centre is equipped with high-fidelity patient simulators and cutting-edge technologies to support realistic clinical environments. It serves approximately 700 undergraduate medical students from Years 1-6, having facilitated over 250 educational activities since early 2026, reaching around 9,000 learners and generating over 22,000 learner contact hours.
The UAEU Medical Simulation Centre supports a wide array of educational activities, such as clinical skills education, simulation-based learning, and advanced clinical training, among others. It also fosters educational research in simulation effectiveness and innovation in healthcare education.
The centre is currently undergoing the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) accreditation process, with a formal review and site visit expected in October 2026. Additionally, it is exploring collaborations with healthcare and academic organisations to expand its educational and research initiatives.
Reflecting UAEU's commitment to modernising healthcare education, the centre combines clinical simulation with immersive and virtual reality technologies to prepare competent healthcare professionals for the evolving demands of the sector.
