Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 209,000 in June, and the unemployment rate changed little at 3.6 percent, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment continued to trend up in government, health care, social assistance, and construction.
The nonfarm payroll report released today noted that labor force participation rate was 62.6 percent for the fourth consecutive month, and the employment-population ratio, at 60.3 percent, was unchanged over the month.
Average hourly earnings for all employees on private nonfarm payrolls rose by 12 cents, or 0.4 percent, to $33.58. The report added that, over the past 12 months, average hourly earnings have increased by 4.4 percent.
