International Labour Conference to Address Worker Issues in Occupied Arab Territories

Geneva: The International Labour Organisation (ILO) is set to convene its annual International Labour Conference (ILC) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva from June 2 to 13, 2025. Delegates representing governments, workers, and employers from the ILO's 187 Member States will engage in discussions that could significantly impact the global workforce.

According to Emirates News Agency, the conference will explore a range of pressing issues. Among the topics on the agenda are protection against biological hazards at work, marking the second discussion on a proposed Convention and Recommendation. Additionally, the conference will initiate its first standard-setting discussion on decent work in the platform economy.

Furthermore, the ILC will examine innovative strategies to address informality and promote formal work, alongside discussions on tripartite input to the Second World Summit for Social Development in 2025. Participants will also deliberate on changes to the Maritime Labour Convention, specifically approving amendments adopted at the Special Tripartite Committee's meeting in April 2025.

The conference will further cover reports from the Chairperson of the Governing Body and the Director-General, with a particular focus on the situation of workers in the occupied Arab territories. Additionally, delegates will review the Draft Programme and Budget proposals for 2026-27.

Scheduled for June 12, 2025, the second edition of the Global Coalition for Social Justice Annual Forum will bring together Coalition partners and ILO tripartite delegations accredited to the conference, facilitating further collaboration and dialogue on social justice issues.
