Ras Al Khaimah: H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, underscored the importance of charitable work as a fundamental aspect of the UAE's societal culture. He stated that it embodies the nation's cultural advancement and the enduring values of generosity and humanitarian solidarity held by its citizens.
According to Emirates News Agency, these comments were made during a meeting at Sheikh Saud's palace in Saqr bin Mohammed City with Tracy Reynolds, Consul-General of Canada in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, along with members of the organising committee of the RAK Terry Fox Run. The proceeds from the event were allocated to the University of Sharjah for the creation of an incubator aimed at supporting student-led scientific research on cancer diseases.
Sheikh Saud emphasized the importance of such humanitarian initiatives in reinforcing social responsibility and promoting unity within the community. He noted that acts of giving foster hope and optimism among future generations. During the meeting, a delegation from the University of Sharjah was presented with a cheque representing the proceeds from the event, highlighting Ras Al Khaimah's dedication to supporting academic institutions and empowering them to address significant health challenges.
The RAK Terry Fox Run 2024 charity event was held on 16th November along the Al Qawasim Corniche, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, in collaboration with the Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Foundation for Charity and Humanitarian Work. The event saw broad participation from the local community.
Organisers expressed their appreciation to the RAK Ruler for his steadfast support of charitable initiatives. They remarked that the annual race honors the legacy of Canadian athlete Terry Fox and aids in funding cancer research while enhancing public awareness.
