UAE and Germany Co-Host Forum to Boost Energy Collaboration

Abu dhabi: The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) of Germany have co-organized a UAE-Germany Energy Forum, under the Emirati-German Energy and Climate Partnership. The event aimed to strengthen collaboration between the two nations in the fields of clean energy, innovation, and climate action.

According to Emirates News Agency, the forum gathered experts who discussed the future of energy grids and the role of AI in energy systems. The event coincided with the visit of Katherina Reiche, Germany's Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy. Eng Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, highlighted the longstanding partnership between the UAE and Germany, emphasizing their shared commitment to clean energy.

Since the establishment of the Emirati-German Energy Partnership in 2017, and its expansion in 2022 to include climate cooperation, the collaboration has progressed in areas such as hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), renewable energy, grid interconnection, and industrial decarbonisation.

Eng Al Olama elaborated on two key themes for the next decade: the future of energy grids and the integration of AI and innovation into the energy system. He noted the importance of a modern and resilient grid to achieve goals like tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030.

The UAE is actively responding with advancements in solar deployment, district cooling, hydrogen integration, and battery storage. Eng Al Olama reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to enhancing cooperation in hydrogen and SAF supply chains, energy storage solutions, carbon markets, and digital energy systems. He expressed confidence that the discussions would lead to concrete actions and new collaborations, building on the outcomes of COP30.
