UAE Refutes Claims of Supplying Weapons to Sudan Amid Conflict

Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates has firmly rejected allegations made by a non-governmental organization regarding the provision of AH-4 howitzer systems to parties involved in the Sudan conflict.

According to Emirates News Agency, Salem Aljaberi, UAE Assistant Minister for Security and Military Affairs, stated that the claims are unsubstantiated and without evidence. Aljaberi emphasized that the UAE maintains a clear stance against supplying arms or military support to any factions in Sudan. This position has been communicated to the United Nations, and it is reflected in the latest UN Security Council’s Panel of Experts report on the Sudan sanctions regime, which does not support the allegations against the UAE.

Aljaberi clarified that the howitzer mentioned in the report is manufactured outside the UAE and has been available on the international market for nearly ten years. He dismissed the assertion that only one nation has procured or transferred this system as invalid.

The UAE calls for rigorous verification of information before it is published. It adheres to a robust export control regime in compliance with international law, particularly concerning arms control. The UAE is committed to collaborating with international partners to prevent the illicit flow of arms in conflict zones.

The nation continues to advocate for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Sudan, prioritizing the protection of civilians and the resumption of an inclusive political process leading to a civilian government independent of military influence. The UAE remains a steadfast supporter of Sudan, extending humanitarian support and solidarity to the Sudanese people for over five decades.
