Abu dhabi: Abu Dhabi University (ADU), in collaboration with the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an, has inaugurated a community-funded building in the Al Mafraq area to establish long-term funding for student scholarships. The event was attended by key figures including Faisal Al Hmoudi, Executive Director of the Social Investment Fund at Ma’an; Professor Ghassan Aouad, Chancellor of ADU; and Salem Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of Community Relations at the university.
According to Emirates News Agency, the building was developed with a total contribution of AED9.5 million and spans 4,300 m². It represents a pioneering Corporate Social Responsibility model that leverages community assets to create recurring revenue streams dedicated to funding student scholarships. The facility includes 16 offices, four warehouses, six retail shops, and a supermarket, which will be leased to promote local business activity while generating sustainable funding for education.
Once operational, the initiative is projected to support up to 25 full scholarships or more than 40 partial scholarships annually. This directly contributes to expanding access to higher education and empowering future generations. Professor Ghassan Aouad emphasized that the inauguration marks a milestone in transforming community contributions into enduring educational opportunities, reflecting ADU’s commitment to inclusive growth and shared social responsibility.
Abdullah Al Ameri, Director-General of Ma’an, highlighted that supporting education has a profound impact on both individuals and the community by developing a more resilient and skilled future workforce. The initiative aligns with Ma’an’s ‘From The Community To The Community’ framework, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s culture of giving by uniting government entities, academic institutions, and the wider community for measurable social impact. It also aligns with national priorities focused on community empowerment, education, and sustainable development.
